A woman told police she “went crazy” and stabbed a man in the back of the leg and shoulder “in the heat of the moment” after he assaulted her twice, including stomping on her head.

Ebony Jade Hosie, 21, of Doyalson North, faced Wyong Local Court on Tuesday where she pleaded guilty to recklessly wounding Hayden Champion.

Another charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm was withdrawn and dismissed.

An agreed set of facts states she had consumed about 15 Vodka Cruisers “pretty fast” and a capsule of MDMA at a party on Basford Rd, Doyalson North, on February 13.

In the days leading up to the party Hosie had been in regular contact with a man “with a view of forming a relationship with him” and he turned up at the party uninvited, intoxicated and with an old school friend in Champion.

Hosie and Champion had met a couple of times before and at one point during the party they kissed in a shed before moving inside to a bathroom where Hosie filmed them kissing on her mobile phone.

The facts state Hosie threatened to send videos of them kissing to Champion’s girlfriend.

Champion became angry and snatched the phone from her before pushing her against a wall and hitting her around the head five or six times until her cousin came in and asked what was going on, the facts state.

Her cousin told Champion to leave and Hosie “burst out of the bathroom” hysterical, crying and yelling “he’s hit me”.

Champion started walking up the driveway when several fights broke out.

Hosie approached him and he punched her in the face twice before another woman brought her car around and tried to get Champion and his mate away from the party.

Eventually they jumped in the car along with Hosie.

The car stopped at the Shell service station on the Pacific Highway where Champion and his mate got out and started arguing over what had happened.

The facts state Champion’s mate pulled out a knife but Hosie took it off him saying “No way. Give me that knife. Like, you’re not using it. No one’s using that”.

Champion and his mate started fighting and spilled out onto the Pacific Highway where Hosie tried to separate them.

At one point Champion dragged her to the ground and stomped on her head.

Later she approached Champion and stabbed him twice, once in the back of the leg and once in the back of his shoulder.

Hosie started to walk back to the party when a passing motorist saw her “visibly upset and crying hysterically” and asked if she needed a lift home.

Champion meanwhile was taken to Wyong Hospital where he was given a blood transfusion and treated for deep wounds to his leg, shoulder and another laceration to his thumb.

Hosie was spoken to by police later in the evening but due to her level of intoxication they did not take a statement.

She attended Wyong Police Station the following day where she told officers she was “99 per cent sure she had stabbed the victim” and that she had been very intoxicated after drinking 15 Vodka Cruisers and taken an MDMA capsule in combination with her bipolar medication — antidepressants and mood stabilisers — prior to the offence.

She told police she had hidden the knife under her house and it was later recovered.

Swabs taken from the knife returned DNA matches to her and the victim.

Three days later Hosie participated in a second recorded interview where she told police “like it was just all in the heat of the moment” and she couldn’t recall exactly what happened.

“I think I just honestly blacked out and went crazy, cause that’s not me,” she said.

Hosie was adjourned to face Gosford District Court on January 20 to set a sentencing date.

Champion meanwhile pleaded guilty to affray and common assault and was sentenced in Gosford District Court in October to 20 months jail.
