“He led the Land Council on a pathway that has seen Darkinjung emerge as a leader for Aboriginal communities, Land Rights and in the Central Coast community,” she said.

“We thank Sean Gordon for his efforts and wish him well in the next chapter of his journey.”

During Mr Gordon’s tenure he was involved in a number major projects and issues, including the establishment of Darkinjung Barker College.

He was instrumental in setting up a variety of structures to support the local indigenous community such as the Barang Regional Alliance incorporating Local Decision Making and Empowered Communities.

Mr Gordon strongly advocated on behalf of the Darkinjung including the Land and Environment Court decisions to protect a significant Aboriginal woman’s cultural site at Calga Sand Quarry, and the court’s decision to uphold Darkinjung’s interest in land impacted by the Wallarah 2 coal mine.

Speaking of his departure from Darkinjung, Mr Gordon thanked the board, staff and members of Darkinjung for their support.

“I have learnt so much during my time as CEO of Darkinjung, and the Central Coast community will hold a special place in my heart as I look to my next adventure,” he added.

Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council will write to every member to notify them of the changes and the processes it will go through to recruit a new CEO.
