COVID-19: Health, hospitality and sales have most job vacancies on the Central Coast

Catering, hospitality, nursing and healthcare and sales roles are the most in need on the coast according to new employment data.
The data from Job site Adzuna reveals there were 148 jobs available on the coast in healthcare and nursing followed by 41 in catering/hospitality and 35 sales positions going.
The education/teaching sector was looking to fill 26 positions followed by 25 jobs in construction/trades and the same number in general, unspecified industries.
All up there were 197 full-time jobs and 82 part-time jobs being advertised.
Simplify Recruitment chief executive Jodie Bayliss said the industries most in need of staff should not come as a big surprise.
“They were in great demand prior to COVID-19,” she said.
“Healthcare was the leading vacancies for a long time and there’s an even greater need for it now. Nursing agencies … they can’t fill vacancies.”
Ms Bayliss said the demand for trades was usually close behind.
However Ms Bayliss cautioned jobseekers from being too optimistic.
“There’s a lot of jobs out there but are they suitably qualified?” she said.
Future Personnel owner Greg Steele specialises in sourcing staff for factories and warehouses.
According to Adzuna listings there are 19 roles available in transport, logistics and warehouse on the coast but Mr Steele said it would take some time for the whole employment sector to recover from the “disaster of April”.
Meanwhile the COVID-19 pandemic has forced many Australians to re-evaluate their careers, with two in five now planning to take a leap of faith into a whole new line of work.
Whether motivated by job insecurity or a new perspective gained while in isolation, exclusive figures from Dynata reveal 40 per cent of Australians are looking to make a career change, including 64 per cent of Millennials (aged 24 to 38).
Adecco Group chief executive Rafael Moyano said anyone wanting a career change should first consider extra study as jobseekers in today’s competitive market would need to demonstrate the exact skills that employers need.
“If you don’t have them, you need to be able to re-skill or upskill,” he said.
“We need to keep skilling and training ourselves or in two to three years we will be left behind.”
