Maddison Kelly was the alleged “getaway driver” who took three people to a busy shopping centre carpark at the weekend where a young woman was stabbed multiple times, a court has heard.
The 21-year-old from North Gosford appeared in the dock at Wyong Local Court on Tuesday where she was facing one count of being an accessory after the fact to reckless wounding causing actual bodily harm.
Ms Kelly’s Legal Aid solicitor applied for bail, telling the court his client had an unblemished criminal record, she was simply “the getaway driver” and could abide by strict bail conditions.
Magistrate Kirralee Perry said it would be alleged the victim Tammy Ford was “lured” to Westfield Tuggerah about 9am on Sunday via series of text messages from up to three people who Ms Kelly allegedly drove to and from the centre.
Ms Perry also strenuously refused one of the proposed bail conditions that included Ms Kelly going to live with the mother of the person accused of committing the stabbing.
“It’s a massive concern in this matter that the co-accuseds are still at large,” Ms Perry said.
“I will not be granting bail [for her] to live with her co-accused’s mother.”
The court heard the victim, Ms Ford, 21, went to the shopping centre car park about 9am on Sunday where she was stabbed.
She later attended Wyong Police Station with multiple stab wounds to her upper arms and back.
Paramedics treated Ms Ford at the station before the Toll Rescue Helicopter flew her to Royal North Shore hospital in a stable condition with non life threatening injuries.
Tuggerah Lakes Police District attended the shopping centre and established a crime scene.
Ms Perry said Ms Kelly’s car was allegedly captured on CCTV entering and leaving the shopping centre.
Ms Perry said police would allege Ms Kelly then “hid at home”.
She said while Ms Kelly had only been charged as an alleged accessory after the fact she could have also been facing the far more serious offence of reckless wounding because of the legal concept of “joint criminal enterprise” if police could have established she “knew what was going to happen”.
“It’s an offence that involves a significant amount of violence,” Ms Perry said.
Ms Perry granted Ms Kelly bail on the condition she live with another person at North Gosford, report to police three days a week and not approach Ms Ford, any other witnesses or the three people accused of committing the crime.
She will face court again on April 2.
