GOSFORD High School graduate Ellora Srivastava thinks it’s crazy anyone would want to see her artwork.
The modest 18-year-old is one of four Central Coast graduates to have their artwork selected in the prestigious 2018 ARTExpress exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW.
The other budding Coast artists include Georgia Olivia Green, Hannah Raeside and Ryan Sang-Hyeon Lee.
“It’s pretty crazy to think anyone would want to see it,” Ms Srivastava said.
She said her Year 12 painting was inspired by growing up in a multicultural family.
“My dad is Indian and mum is Australian,” she said. “I researched a lot of artists who transfer their multicultural background to their art. I also used different styles of painting throughout the work.”
Unlike most students doing their Higher School Certificate artwork, Ms Srivastava spent about 60 per cent of her allocated time researching.
“A lot of people start straight away and develop from there, but I spent a lot of time coming up with conceptual ideas,” she said.
“The project has definitely encouraged me to keep art in my life.”
ARTExpress is currently on at the Art Gallery of NSW, with more individually curated exhibitions planned across the state throughout the year.
It will be held at Hawkesbury Regional Gallery from May 25 to July 15, and Gosford Regional Gallery from July 20 to September 2.
