Central Coast weather: Heavy rainfall sees landslips, flash flooding and road closures

Flash flooding, landslips, road closures and cancelled sporting fixtures are happening across the coast with more than 100mm falling in many parts of the region overnight.

Evacuation orders for several parts of Sydney

The Central Coast recorded some of the highest rainfall figures across eastern NSW over the past 24 hours.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has indicated that the heavy rain is easing Friday morning across eastern NSW “as the upper-level low driving the significant falls starts to weaken”.

The BOM states that over the past 24 hours the highest rainfalls have included 150mm at Woy Woy, 145mm at Ettalong Public School and 134mm at Bensville.

“Showers will continue in coastal areas on Friday, with some early heavy falls possible, but generally rainfall will tend to be patchier and totals will be much lower than previous days,: the BOM states.”

Over the past 24 hours, the coast has seen flash flooding, landslips and a stack of road closures.

Other high rainfall statistics from 9am Thursday include Pearl Beach with 127mm, Kincumber 126mm, Koolewong 122mm and Avoca 106mm.

“Other waterways such as Tuggerah Lake, Ourimbah Creek, Wyong River, and Narara Creek are all impacted also.”

The closure of fields has seen the cancellation of many local sports fixtures across the weekend.

Central Coast Rugby Union’s season is yet to kick off with round two cancelled.

“The comp will now start on 23rd April, 2022 (Round 3) and the draw will stay as it is,” CCRU’s Larry Thomson has advised.

“A decision on where and when the Round 2 games are played will be made in due course.”
