THE first step in what is a grand plan to catapult Central Coast Stadium into the 21st century has finally reached completion, with the ground’s big screen becoming operational once more after a long-overdue facelift.
The upgraded screen, which is 86 square metres and is double the size of its predecessor, heralds the commencement of some significant capital investment from Central Coast Council that will see the fan experience within the ground improve over the next 12 months.
It comes just days before the Central Coast Mariners host Brisbane Roar in a crucial A-League clash for the finals aspirations of both teams.
“We will be able to draw on more resources than previously and our focus is on the broader community,” Central Coast Council Director of Assets, Infrastructure and Business Mike Dowling said.
“We’ve upgraded many of the corporate suites, and many of the general public will begin to notice upgraded amentites and all the food concessions are going to be upgraded.”
The screen is capable of live streaming breaking news and current events before, during and after play, while also allowing the stadium to house movie nights without the need for a secondary screen.
Its first official duty, however, will be to screen a FIFA 18 match between two of the Coast’s best electronic gamers.
Central Coast Mariners CEO Shaun Mielekamp is thrilled by the progress.
“This is our home and we’re passionate about seeing this stadium become the very best it can be for the community,” he said.
“Everyone that comes here now is going to have a better experience than they have ever had.
“We’re very excited about the next steps and it’s good to know there is plenty more to come.”
