A DAIRY farm’s $23.7 million transformation into the Central Coast’s premier sporting facility is now complete.

A sporting bonanza is planned for the opening of Central Coast Regional Sporting and Recreation Complex this weekend.

The 18 ha complex, built on the old Pioneer Dairy site at Lake Rd, Tuggerah will be opened tomorrow by Central Coast mayor Jane Smith and Senator Arthur Sinodinos.

Then it’s down to business with the opening weekend including matches of football, AFL, rugby league, rugby union, T-ball and Oztag.

Local and NSW sporting organisations will be holding matches, gala days and showcases providing something for everyone and the ideal opportunity to test out the new facilities.

The state of the art complex has nine playing fields, cricket pitches and public amenities including change rooms, canteen facilitates, store rooms and parking.

Cr Smith said it was the biggest infrastructure project to be delivered on the Central Coast in the 2017-18 financial year.

“The economic benefits that will flow to the Central Coast from hosting major sporting tournaments are huge — in tourism dollars and in creating local employment opportunities,” she said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the state-of-the-art facility is expected to generate an additional 57,000 visitors to the area each year.

“Ideally located near the northern rail line and M1 motorway and providing direct links to Sydney and Newcastle, we expect an increase in the number of players and spectators to visit the complex for a range of competitions and events,” Mr McCormack said.

“The project, which supported 70 jobs during construction and creates an expected 28 ongoing local jobs, has provided the first and only facility in the region capable of hosting major national, state and local sporting events.”

The complex was officially opened by Liberal Senator Arthur Sinodinos.

The complex, at 20 Lake Rd, will be open Friday 9am-3.30pm, Saturday 8am-9pm and Sunday 8.30am- 5pm. Entry is free.
