Central Coast Mayor Lisa Matthews has delivered a social media rant as she waded through floodwaters to get to tonight’s Central Coast Council meeting.
Cr Matthews said she will be at the meeting in Gosford keen to hear from local residents, despite her house being flood affected.
“I have been affected by this flood so those of you who think you know me, for those of you who think that I don’t care, well you are wrong,” she said.
“I am wading through water to get to that meeting.
“I am going to be at that meeting front and centre to listen to what the community has to say.”
Central Coast Council has been under attack across social media channels for the flooding around Tuggerah Lakes, with many blaming its inaction.
In her video which she posted to Facebook, Cr Matthews criticised colleagues who accused her of sitting in an “ivory tower”.
“I am here in Chittaway with the rest of my community underwater,” she said.
“Please people before you start saying things and making comments actually know me, ring me, ask me ‘what are you doing?’.”
She said she had been looking at flood-affected areas and slammed fellow councillors who had been grandstanding.
She said she was “doing her best, getting out there” and planned to be at the meeting at 5pm.
