Central Coast Mariners’ Colombian import Angel Torres will face trial next year after being arraigned on five charges.

The 24-year-old winger stood in the dock at Gosford District Court on Thursday as five charges were read out — once in English and a second time by a Spanish interpreter.

The indictment alleges Torres held a woman against her will for more than an hour before allegedly sexually assaulting her in the early hours of March 24 at Terrigal.

Torres pleaded “not guilty” to aggravated sexual intercourse without consent, an alternative count of sexual intercourse without consent, two counts of common assault and one of intimidation.

Dressed in a light grey suit, open-neck shirt and white sneakers, Torres was given a trial date of March 24, 2025, which is coincidentally a year to the day of the alleged incident.

The court heard the trial is expected to take five days and a Spanish interpreter is required to attend.

Torres, of Magenta, is excused from attending court for two procedural mentions leading up to the start of the trial and his bail was continued.

The winger, who signed with the Mariners in August last year on a two-year deal, is considered one of the blue and navy’s brightest stars in recent years after finding the back of the net 13 times in 23 A-League games.

He was arrested by officers attached to Brisbane Water Police’s Proactive Crime Team on April 22 before being charged and released on bail.

After being charged with alleged criminal offences, Football Australia immediately imposed a no-fault suspension.
