FORMER Matildas coach Alen Stajcic is expected to replace Mike Mulvey at the Central Coast Mariners for the rest of the A-League season.
His former assistant with the Matildas, Nahuel Arrarte, director of football at NSW NPL club Marconi, will be his assistant.
Stajcic was controversially dumped as coach of the Matildas by Football Federation Australia in January, after taking them to number six in the world.
He has been involved in women’s football for 20 years, with the Mariners gig to be his first senior job in men’s football.
Mulvey was sacked on Sunday morning after the Mariners were thumped 8-2 at home to Wellington Phoenix.
It’s been a horror season for the Mariners who have conceded a league-high 56 goals and, with six games remaining, are on track to surpass their own record of 70 goals conceded in a season.
Saturday evening’s crowd of 3703 was the club’s lowest A-League home attendance since its inception.
