Central Coast jobs: Gosford CBD development bonanza to bring jobs
The Minister for Planning was in town to announce a highly specialised design team to lead the revitalisation of Gosford — but the big news is the thousands of new jobs which could flow from just two developments.
Two new Gosford developments could create up to 3560 jobs for the Central Coast.
The employment bonanza came to light during a visit to the nearly completed Gosford Finance Building by NSW Planning and Housing Minister Anthony Roberts today.
Mr Roberts revealed that construction company the Lederer Group was on the verge of lodging a new development application for a $280 million commercial, retail, entertainment and residential complex on the so-called Kibbleplex site (Marketplace) near Kibble Park.
The Minister said the development had the potential to create 600 construction jobs and 300 operational jobs for the city.
The Lederer proposal comes on top of the announcement earlier in the week of plans for a $350m private hospital on the corner of Faunce and Racecourse Roads which would create 2,200 construction jobs and 460 permanent jobs.
Both proposals still need to go though the usual planning assessment processes
The Minister was in town to talk about a “surge in investor confidence in Gosford” which he said resulted from the government’s revitalisation program for the city.
“Since October the Department of Planning and Environment has received dozens of inquiries from land owners and their consultants with very real interest in a broad range of developments, including commercial, residential, mixed-use and hospital developments,” Mr Robeerts said.
“A number of these are State Significant Development proposals with estimated values over $75 million.”
Mr Roberts also announced the members of the cumbersomely named Gosford Design Advisory Panel Design Reference Group.
It’s six members will be responsible for ensuring new development achieve design excellence.
Members are:
■ John Choi, Director, Chrofi,
■ Simon Kilbane, University of Technology, Sydney,
■ Gabrielle Morrish, Managing Director and Principal, GMU,
■ Garth Paterson, Director, Paterson Design Studio Pty Ltd
■ Peter Smith, Director, Smith & Tzannes
■ Paul Walter, Director, Atlas Urban Strategy
Atlas Urban Strategy’s architect, Paul Walter, said there was a wave of growth in front of Gosford.
“It’s going to be the next ten years that really change the face of this city,” he said.
“It will develop a new urban character — high quality environments that people really want to be in.
“It’s fantastic to be involved in that future.”
