Central Coast HSC success celebrated for public and private schools

It’s been an incredibly tough year for Year 12 students and now the HSC results are finally in, showing amazing outcomes for our private and public schools.

HSC results across the Central Coast are being celebrated.

It’s been a year like no other and for Year 12 students, an extremely challenging time to take the HSC.

However, the results are revealing positive outcomes for both public and private schools across the Central Coast.

Students at St Joseph’s Catholic College have achieved incredible results.

School Principal Tony McCudden said supporting students this year had been the ultimate priority for school staff.

“Our cohort of 130 students received 48 band sixes, the 3rd most on the Central Coast,” he said.

“Highlights include ATARs of 97.45 for Sophie Smith, 96.85 for Elizabeth Murphy, 96.25 for Lara McCudden, 95.25 for Grace Talty, 94.8 for Lisa Briggs, 94.25 for Matilda Andrew, 93.45 for Brooke Chilvers, 92.8 for Aubrey Tedd, 92.6 for Mollie Andersen, 91.7 for Maeve Godwin, 91.15 for Eliza Steven.

“Our School Captain Grace Tulty received great news, with an ATAR of 95.25.”

Central Coast Grammar School has achieved outstanding results in the HSC.

Central Coast Grammar School headmaster William Low was thrilled with the school ranking 83rd out of approximately 800 schools.

“The school has continually focused on improving the percentage of students with an ATAR over 90 and we’re delighted that the hard work and commitment from students, staff and families have been recognised today,” he said.

60 per cent of CCGS students received an ATAR of 80 or above, 34 per cent received an ATAR of 90 and above and 14 per cent received an ATAR of 95 and above.

School DUX Katelyn Williams was honoured in the NESA High Achievers list for Society and Culture.

There have also been plenty of heartwarming stories emerging from Central Coast public schools.

NSW Education Secretary Mark Scott paid tribute to every student who had completed their HSC in 2020.

“Considering the particular challenges of 2020, we are extremely proud of every student who has shown the determination and resilience to achieve their best and finish their HSC,” Mr Scott said.

Local Executive Director Tim McCallum commended all Central Coast students on completing their HSC in a year that has brought a unique set of challenges.

Mr McCallum said many students were already enjoying apprenticeships, traineeships or other employment while others had been assured of an early entry place at university.

“There are certainly plenty of reasons to celebrate,” Mr McCallum said.

“Parents and teachers can certainly share their pride as they look back on 13 years of schooling and how the students have been rewarded for their efforts.

“These results are sealing students’ personal goals and will be a solid foundation for their next step to further study or employment.”

Mr McCallum said the release of HSC merit lists today by the NSW Educational Standards Authority (NESA) had brought a whole new dimension to celebrations.

“There have been some exceptional results and everyone who has been recognised on a NESA

achievement rankings list deserves special congratulations,” Mr McCallum said.

“I am particularly delighted with the spread of schools across the Central Coast that have been noted for their achievements.”

Kincumber High School’s Jessica Sanchez was ranked in the Top Achievers 1.

Mr McCallum applauded the seven students from Gosford High School who were declared All-Rounders 2 because they scored a top band result in ten or more units: Mikayla Newley, Liam Chaney, Zoe Clarke, Liam Davis, Patrick Fang, Sophie Norris and Mikhail Savkin.

Six Central Coast students were also ranked as Top Achievers 1: Jessica Sanchez, from Kincumber High School (Community and Family Studies) and from Gosford High School Sophia Stewart (English Extension 2), Sophie Kelly (Food Technology), Jessica Livette-Vial and Capri Aldridge (French Beginners), and Patrick Fang (Maths Extension 1).

Mr McCallum also commended the 13 Central Coast public schools where students earned at least one top band to make them a Distinguished Achiever 3.
