A new drive-through COVID-19 testing facility has opened in East Gosford today with around 60 people tested before 12pm.
The facility, run by Laverty, has opened at Hylton-Moore Oval and will be open Monday to Friday.
A Laverty staff member told the Express the privately-run facility would be open for at least three months due to high demand for testing across the coast. She said results from testing would be available within 24 hours.
It comes as the coast recorded two recent cases of COVID-19, including a man in his 50s who contacted the virus from a Sydney CBD cluster.
The second case was a teenager from the same household as the man.
Central Coast Local Health District has advised there us no threat to the community from either cases who have been in isolation. They are both reported to be doing well.
These are the only recent cases of the virus on the coast, following the second wave which has crippled Victoria and spread across Sydney.
Coasties have remained vigilant, with testing facilities recording high numbers.
The federally-funded testing facility in Erina was given an extension to remain open until the end of September, however it is unknown if that will be increased again.
Last month, Premier Gladys Berejiklian visited the coast and praised the community on its “harsh stance” following reports many pubs and clubs across the region were banning people from Sydney hot spots.
“I want to thank the Central Coast community for taking the health advice, being COVID safe, making sure all of the residents following the health advice but also getting tested with the mildest symptoms,” she said
The new facility in East Gosford will be open Monday to Friday from 8am-4pm. No referrals are needed.
