Confirmed cases of the coronavirus on the Central Coast have doubled over the past two days.
Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) has confirmed that an additional 19 cases have been confirmed across the region since Monday, bringing the total number of cases to 38.
The cases include 31 people who acquired the virus overseas, six who are close contacts of confirmed cases and one unknown source.
“Of these cases, five have recovered and are no longer in isolation,” a spokeswoman from CCLHD said.
“All other cases are at home in isolation (no current hospital cases).”
It comes as cases rise to 2252 across Australia with 1029 in NSW.
Tighter shutdown measures come into play from midnight tonight, including closures of beauty salons, amusement parks, real estate open homes, tattoo parlours and shopping centre food courts.
Hairdressers can operate, however only for 30 minutes per customer, while schools remain open for “essential workers”. Weddings have been limited to five people, and funerals have a limit of 10.
Central Coast beaches have also closed, with patrol season ending today in order to prevent further spread of the virus.
Authorities continue to urge the community to adhere to hygiene and social distancing regulations.
■ Wash your hands for a minimum of 20 seconds with soap and water
■ Cover your nose and mouth while coughing and sneezing
■ Avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms
■ Practising social distancing of 1.5 metres distance from people at all times, avoiding handshakes, hugging and kissing
