Emergency services were called to Phegans Bay at 2.45pm on Saturday after reports of a man, aged in his 40s, with a badly lacerated hand.
When paramedics arrived they found Mr Brennan conscious and breathing but with a large cut across the back of his left hand and thumb.
He was treated at the scene before being taken to Rogers Park at Woy Woy where he was met by a specialist medical team from the CareFlight helicopter.
He was flown to Royal North Shore Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.
The Central Coast Conservatorium posted a statement on its Facebook page yesterday.
“At the request of his family we would like to clarify for our community that our artistic director Patrick Brennan suffered an injury on Saturday afternoon and has subsequently undergone restorative surgery to his left hand,” the statement said.
“The family and Conservatorium board wish to reassure everyone that he is recovering in hospital and expected to make a full recovery.
“We ask that you respect the privacy of the family at this time and refrain from making direct contact. Any questions or concerns can be directed to the Conservatorium. Wishing Patrick a speedy recovery.”
No details have been released about how Mr Brennan came to be injured by the saw or what he might have been cutting at the time.
