Detectives investigating a suspected arson attack on the Lake Macquarie City Council chambers have released two fresh images of a ute which could hold the key to solving the crime.
Emergency services were called to the three-storey building on Main Rd at 3.50am on Wednesday, November 27, following reports of a fire.
Lake Macquarie Police District attended and found the old council chambers building well alight.
More than a dozen fire crews were called in to assist and gained control of the blaze by 5.15am.
Parts of the ground floor were significantly damaged and there was extensive smoke and heat damage on level one.
Specialist fire investigators — as well as Lake Macquarie detectives — were called in to look at the cause of the blaze.
Police established a crime scene and inquiries into the fire commenced under Strike Force Komiatum.
Inquiries by strike force detectives earlier established that two persons were in the vicinity of the council building at the time and have previously released CCTV images of the people they wish to speak to.
Police have now released CCTV images of a dark grey utility seen in the area around the time of the incident.
Anyone able to identify the persons or vehicle, or with CCTV/dashcam from the area, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
