Yes it’s a car show, but not like anything you have seen before according to the organisers of the Central Coast’s newest festival of all things automotive.

The Cars Under the Stars show is being billed as much as a “community event” as it is a traditional display of classic motors, sports cars, hot rods and motorbikes.

“If it has wheels and an engine, bring it,” organiser Steve Turner said.

Mr Turner has partnered with veteran Sydney car show promoter Barney Kodsy who has been running similar events at Sydney Motorsport Park, Greenway Plaza Shopping Center at Wetherill Park and Harvey Norman Homemakers Center at Penrith for the past eight years.

Mr Turner said the event would feature “something for everyone” and has assembled an eclectic range of stalls ranging from typical car-related merchandise and trade stalls through to spray tanning, hair and make up, “Bee-Bop dresses”, fashion, axe-throwing and custom made cakes.

“I’ve been going to shows for 30 years and often you’ll hear a woman say `but you’ve looked at that car three times now’,” he said.

“With this one you’ll be able to say `honey, have at it’.”

The show will also feature bikes, hot rods and anything else with wheels including Charlie Brown’s 1972 Laverda. Picture: Sue Graham

Batman and The Joker will also be making an appearance for people, young and old, to get selfies, while a female choir will also be doing the rounds singing Christmas carols.

Mr Turner said the show would also display upwards of 350 cars and motorbikes featuring everything from vintage and classic cars and motorbikes, to Mini Minors, American muscle cars, hot rods and the latest model sports cars.

“We’re drawing from Newcastle to Sydney,” he said

Among the 55-60 stalls will be a number of charities including the Salvation Army, Central Coast Autism and Coastwide Family Care.

“They, to a man, said that with Covid for the last 18 months, none of them had been able to do any fund raising and this was their first foray into the ‘brave new world’ post Covid,” he said.

Former Central Coast American Classic Car Club president Kevin Wojewodke is looking forward to displaying some of his five fully restored retro classics including a 1963 Thunderbird and 1962 Bonneville convertible.

“It will be good to have an event on the coast,” he said.

Meanwhile Mr Turner said he hoped the event would set the foundation to have regular Cars Under the Stars nights next year.

“The reaction from the community has been ‘what a great idea’,” he said.

Entry to the event at Gosford Showground on December 4 will be free for the general public, with those wishing to display a vehicle will be charged a nominal $10 for a car and $5 for a motorbike.
