THE days when a club menu seldom strayed far from a chicken parmigiana and the roast of the day are long gone.
These days club food is increasingly sophisticated — and this has helped earn Breakers Country Club at Wamberal the title of best restaurant in a club, pub or tavern in regional NSW.
The club was chosen from 850 restaurants, cafes and catering businesses in 20 categories, judged by Savour Australia Restaurant and Catering Hostplus Awards for Excellence.
The award follows the arrival 18 months ago of executive chef, Aaron Stewart, and a major renovation of the dining area and bars.
Club CEO Ken Pearson said Mr Sewart had “transformed” food service and introduced a high quality menu in the Skillion Brasserie and new Burger Hut.
“We are thrilled to receive this award, I am so proud of our team,” Mr Pearson said. “Without them this achievement wouldn’t have been possible.
“The great thing about these awards is that we are judged on the same experience that our members and guests receive each time they visit the club — the same delicious food, the same great team and the same wonderful venue.”
Judging criteria for the competition is determined by consumers who rank what is important to them in the dining experience.
The awards are judged by an independent team of judges who anonymously visit the venues to determine the winners.
Scores are based on the entire dining experience from quality of the food, the friendliness and level of customer service and the appeal and comfort of the dining areas, bars and other facilities..
