Wyong shooting: Bradley White faces court over Byron Tonks murder

Tributes have begun flowing for Byron Tonks, allegedly shot dead during a terrifying shooting rampage at Wyong, while his alleged killer Bradley White faces court.

The shocking allegations directed at a man charged over multiple shootings at Wyong have been detailed in police documents tendered in court.

It comes as tributes have begun flowing for 20-year-old victim identified at Byron Tonks, of Wattanobbi.

Dressed in blue police forensic overalls Bradley Jason Mark White, of Cutler Ave, faced Wyong Local Court briefly on Wednesday morning where he did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.

Mr White was charged with 15 offences including the shooting murder of Mr Tonks about 6.15pm on Tuesday.

He was also charged with shooting with the intent to murder Pamela Dickinson and Albert Tonks.

Ms Dickinson is understood to have suffered a glancing gunshot wound to her arm but the 45-year-old’s injuries were not considered life-threatening along with Albert Tonks, 50, who was also taken to hospital with what police described as “superficial” injuries.

Charge sheets tendered to court provide a glimpse into what police describe as Mr White’s alleged hour of violence in which he went from house-to-house allegedly firing shots into numbers 9, 26, 28, 30 and 32 Cutler Ave and 2 and 2A Woodward Ave.

He was also charged with possessing a shortened firearm and a 6.5 x 52mm Carcano bolt action rifle.

Mr White, who only celebrated his 40th birthday on Saturday, was also charged with intentionally or recklessly destroying a Holden Commodore by fire belonging to Lachlan White.

Police are still trying to determine how many shots were fired between 6pm when officer were first called to the scene, following reports of a “disturbance”, and shortly after 7pm when Mr White was arrested inside his duplex at 7A Cutler.

However initial investigations indicate it was anywhere from 60 to more than 100 shots fired.

Police are also trying to establish a motive for the alleged rampage but have confirmed the deceased and the two other victims were known to Mr White.

A Highway Patrol officer also suffered a back injury going to the assistance of Byron Tonks.

Mr White said little during his matter’s brief mention in court on Wednesday but waved to two people seated in the public gallery.

He was adjourned to reappear via video link on May 15.

Meanwhile tributes have begun flowing for Mr Tonks who had recently started his own property maintenance and lawn mowing business.

Byron’s brother Lachlan Tonks posted to Facebook on Wednesday: “To my beautiful brother, words can’t explain this f***ed up place, you died a hero an always be a hero, i wish there was more we could have done.”

“I know you just wanted to protect everyone which I can’t thank you enough for. I’m so so so sorry it came to this... thank you for being the best brother ever. I will never forget you, I’m sorry. I love you byron x”

Friend Hayden Shearer posted: “Last night we lost a really good friend/brother.

“Byron Tonks I know you’re up there have a cold VB looking down on us with your big smile and cracking jokes.

“You were taken to soon going to miss you brother.”
