Boy, 12, critical after Umina Beach bike collision with four-wheel-drive

A young boy is in a critical condition and another has suffered serious injuries after their bike and a four-wheel-drive collided on the Central Coast.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Sydney Ave and Ocean Rd just after 7pm on Friday following reports a white Toyota Prado 4WD and a pushbike had collided.

Paramedics treated both children at the scene. Neither child was wearing a helmet.

A 12-year-old boy – who police say was perched on the handlebars – sustained multiple injuries and was flown to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.

The rider, an 11-year-old boy, sustained leg injuries and was taken to Gosford Hospital. He is in a stable condition.

The 59-year-old driver of the four-wheel-drive was not injured. She was taken to Gosford Hospital for mandatory testing.

Brisbane water police district officers established a crime scene and have begun investigating the circumstances around the crash.

Police will provide an update on the incident about 1pm.
