Some days are just that little bit more special than others and that day for Macy Callaghan was Tuesday.
Just days before her 20th birthday, the Central Coast born-and- bred teenager pulled off not just one but two major upsets when she took down both two-time world champion Tyler Wright, then seven-time champion Stephanie Gilmore at the Boost Mobile Pro.

And the secret to her success - a COVID lay-off from competition and surfing every day with mates.
“It’s only the second time I have beaten Steph but it feels as good as the first,’’ said Callaghan of her defeat of the multiple world champion in the quarter-finals of the event on Tuesday.
“I've been working pretty hard in the off-season on my surfing.
“Just doing lots of surfing and its has boosted my confidence.’’
“I didn't make it past round three on the world tour last year so its nice to be making a few more heats now.’’
The leg of the 2020 Australian Grand Slam of Surfing was surfed in solid four-to-six foot surf at South Stradbroke Island.
