An aspiring 20-year-old rugby league player will face trial after pleading not guilty to eight counts of having sexual intercourse with two teenage girls without their consent.

Jack Gunton, of Scone, faced Gosford Local Court on Friday, May 20, where he formally pleaded not guilty to having sexual intercourse with two separate girls on August 2, 2020.

Police allege Mr Gunton had sexual intercourse with one 17-year-old girl four times between the hours of 12am and 3am without the victim’s consent.

Mr Gunton was adjourned to face Gosford District Court for arraignment on June 16.

The court heard given the likely length of the trial an application would be sought to have the matter transferred to a District Court in Sydney.

It is standard procedure for trials with an anticipated duration of any more than three weeks to be relocated away from Gosford District Court, which only has one full-time Judge.

Mr Gunton was arrested by officers from the Hunter Valley Police District on October 8, 2021, and taken to Muswellbrook Police Station where he was charged with eight counts of sexual intercourse without consent.

Two interim apprehended violence orders preventing Mr Gunton from having any contact with the two girls were also adjourned until later in the year pending the outcome of his criminal trial.
