An aspiring 20-year-old rugby league player, who will face trial next year for allegedly raping two teenage girls, has successfully had his bail varied for the holidays.

Jack Gunton had his matter listed at Downing Centre District Court on Thursday where his reporting conditions were changed.

Mr Gunton usually has to report to Chatswood Police Station on Mondays and Wednesdays but this was changed to Nelson Bay Police Station for the period from Boxing Day, December 26 until January 4.

Formerly of Scone, Mr Gunton has pleaded not guilty to eight counts of having sexual intercourse with two separate girls, both aged 17, at a Central Coast party in August 2020.

In charge sheets tendered to court, police allege Mr Gunton had sexual intercourse with one 17-year-old girl four times between the hours of 12am and 3am without the victim’s consent.

Police further allege in the charge sheets Mr Gunton — who was aged 18 at the time — had sexual intercourse with a second victim, also 17, four times between 1am and 3am on the same night.

Mr Gunton’s other bail conditions remain the same and include that he not consume any alcohol or drugs, not prescribed by a doctor, and that he surrender $1000 surety if he fails to comply.

He is due to face trial in Sydney on July 31.
