Radio station 2GOs breakfast slot woes continue with the shock sacking of the star recruit who was supposed to start yesterday.

Hit FM Cairns broadcaster Shad Wicka was to have joined experienced Central Coast radio host Mandy Coolen on Wednesday but is believed to have been fired after a stunt involving the Prime Minister Scott Morrison and the c-bomb.

The incident that led to his sacking involved Wicka posing alongside Mr Morrison for a photo while holding a coffee mug with the c-bomb emblazoned on it.

Comedian Akmal Saleh left 2GO in December.

Mr Morrison then shared the snap to his own Instagram story feed, not noticing the message painted on Mr Wicka’s explicit mug.

It’s now believed Mr Wicka has been sacked from the Southern Cross Austereo radio network, with Cairns general manager Richard King telling the Cairns Post “appropriate action has been taken”.

Southern Cross Austereo radio network’s Cairns general manager Richard King told the Cairns Post “appropriate action has been taken”.

“Southern Cross Austereo sincerely apologises for the actions of Shad Wicker, host of Cairns Hit Network breakfast show, last Thursday,” he said.

Respected and well-like 2GO breakfast co-host Mandy Coolen will be looking for a new radio partner.

“This conduct is not acceptable and does not live up to the social and moral code of conduct that we endorse and expect from all our people.

“We have investigated this matter thoroughly and can confirm appropriate action has been taken.”

The scandal comes on top of the departure in December of comedian and radio personality Akmal Saleh who left to spend more time with his family and pursue his comedic opportunities.

His final show was on December 21.

2GO came under fire after dumping former breakfast radio hosts Sarah King and Paddy Gerrard a year before Saleh came on the scene to very mixed reviews from the audience.

Sarah King had been with 2GO for 27 years and Gerrard has been with Central Coast Radio for 18 years.
