WELL known Central Coast roads in desperate need of repair are set for a makeover to the tune of $70 million.

Central Coast Council has identified 29 roads to benefit from the Federal Government’s $70 million funding commitment from this year’s election.

The package was committed to road improvements to bust congestion and increase safety on local roads.

There is only one roadblock before the funding is approved and construction can start – councillors have to tick off all projects at Monday’s meeting in Gosford.

The biggest winner proposed for the funding is the Ocean Beach Rd and Rawson Rd intersection in Woy Woy, which is set down for a $16.5 million upgrade including changing the intersection from a roundabout to traffic lights.

Steyne Rd in Saratoga could receive $11.3 million for a much needed road and draining upgrade between Bay View Wharf Lane and Irwan St. This would include pavement reconstruction, kerb and gutter, footpath, street drainage and access improvements.

It’s been more than 35 years in the making but residents of Lushington St in East Gosford will be overjoyed to see their street on the list with a $6.6 million upgrade. The road will be upgraded from Henry Parry Drive to Coburg St and will include pavement reconstruction, kerb and gutter, footpath and street drainage.

Last year residents of Lushington St spoke out against the lack of work done in their street which is often used as a shortcut to avoid the Wells St/Henry Parry Drive intersection.

Resident Ken Campbell has been calling on the council to install kerb and guttering and fix ongoing safety issues for more than 35 years.

“Safety issues, lack of infrastructure, poor drainage, speeding vehicles, difficult property access, limited on street parking, noise pollution and road rage are some of the issues that have affected us as residents of Lushington Street,” Mr Campbell said.

“I do remember being present when my father had a meeting with the council in the early 1960s, and he was told not to worry because the kerb and guttering would be fixed in a couple of years.”

Copacabana residents will be cheering with Del Montye Place also making the list for a $10 million upgrade from Segura Street to Oceano Street, while Ridgway Road in Avoca Beach, from The Round Drive to Cape Three Points Road, will receive $7.3 million for pavement reconstruction, kerb and gutters, footpath, traffic calming and street drainage.
