A Canberra woman has alleged she was indecently touched after being catfished by a Pearce construction worker who masqueraded himself to be a tanned, athletic, white man.
Police allege instead she was met with Robelt Harthur Hilarion Urdanivia, a 28-year-old Peruvian national with a “chubby build”, a stark contrast to the profile he created on Tinder.
Hilarion Urdanivia’s allegedly “deceptive” scheme was uncovered in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday following his arrest on an act of indecency without consent charge on Sunday.
Police facts tendered to the court allege the victim met Hilarion Urdanivia on Tinder who went by the name Raul, and displayed images of a caucasian man with “tanned skin and an athletic build”.
Court documents allege the 28-year-old used photos which weren’t consistent with his appearance as a “tall, dark skinned” man of “southeast Asian appearance” with a “chubby build”.
The pair chatted from January 22 for more than two weeks, however the woman felt the Tinder profile was misleading.
Hilarion Urdanivia allegedly sent screenshots of another dating profile to convince her his details were accurate.
Police allege they arranged to meet up for sex on Saturday night at Hilarion Urdanivia’s home in Pearce, and asked her to sneak into his home through a side door where he let her in.
It’s alleged the 28-year-old was wearing a hoodie which obscured part of his face but the victim realised he was not the same man as his Tinder profile.
Police allege Hilarion Urdanivia grabbed the woman with both hands and directed her to the bed. She allegedly said she wanted to leave, to which he replied “no”.
Court documents allege the Peruvian national rubbed his hands over her body and touched her inappropriately, with the woman using her elbow to push him away.
“I’ll lick you baby,” Hilarion Urdanivia allegedly said to the woman.
The woman was luckily able to leave the scene with her phone and called police.
Officers spoke to the Pearce man the next day at his home where he allegedly made admissions to trying to have sex with the woman, using a fake name and photos and admitted to touching her around the waist.
Police say he denied touching her under her dress.
In court on Monday, he applied for conditional bail with the court hearing he had no criminal history, worked in construction and provided financial assistance for his mother in Peru.
Magistrate Glenn Theakston however denied bail, citing the fact Hilarion Urdanivia lived in Australia temporarily, the “deceptive nature” of the allegations and how he was “banned from using Tinder in Peru”.
When he was about to be led away to the Alexander Maconochie Centre, the 28-year-old asked his lawyer if he was going to jail and she said “yes”.
“For how long,” Hilarion Urdanivia replied.
