Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council: Rebecca Ryan named as new CEO

Rebecca Ryan has been appointed as the new CEO of the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council following the resignation of Peter Tegart.

This follows the resignation of longtime CEO Peter Tegart earlier this year.

Ms Ryan is currently the general manager of the Blayney Shire Council in central west NSW.

The incoming CEO is expected to commence her role on May 9 and says she and her husband are excited to relocate to Queanbeyan.

‘This is an exciting time for Queanbeyan-Palerang with so many opportunities outlined in the Community Strategic Plan,” she said.

“The professionalism and dedication of the Mayor and Councillors is evident, and together we will bring to life these activities and projects.

‘I am also conscious that the financial sustainability of the Council is paramount so we can deliver excellent services to our community across the whole council area.”

Ms Ryan said her first priority is to “get out and about” and meet with council staff, business, and locals.

“I want to hear where Council may improve,” she said.

“(Locals) can be assured I am a very good listener, and will be working with Council to build a better Queanbeyan Palerang,’ Ms Ryan said.

‘The staff are key to any successful organisation, and I will be establishing very strong partnerships across all departments.

“I want to ensure our people have the resources to do their job effectively and to support their professional goals, aspirations and growth.”

QPRC Mayor Kenrick Winchester described Ms Ryan as an “experienced local government leader”.

“I am excited to work alongside her to continue to drive the organisation towards an exciting future,” Mr Winchester said.

“Following the merger in 2016, (QPRC) has flourished under the leadership of previous CEO Peter Tegart.

“I am excited by what Rebecca can bring to the organisation as we prepare a new Delivery Program and tackle some important issues.”

Under her leadership Blayney Shire Council was recently awarded the prestigious A.R Bluett Award for the most progressive rural council in NSW, an accolade awarded to QPRC in 2020.
