Queanbeyan: Woman charged for reckless driving occasioning death

A driver has been charged after a woman was fatally struck by a ute close to the nation’s capital.
Police will allege in court a 48-year-old woman was hit by a ute as she was walking along Bicentennial Dr, Jerrabomberra, – near the intersection of Forest Dr – at about 8am on Sunday, November 17.
Paramedics attended but despite best efforts, the woman died at the scene.
The 54-year-old female driver suffered broken ribs and facial injuries in the collision, before she was taken to Canberra Hospital for treatment and mandatory testing.
Monaro Police District subsequently launched a probe into the incident, along with assistance from the Crash Investigation Unit.
The vehicle has since been seized for forensic examination.
Following extensive inquiries, the female driver was charged and issued with a court attendance notice on Monday for dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.
Her licence has also been suspended.
She will face Queanbeyan Local Court on Friday, March 14, 2025.
