Well-loved Canberra night spot Mooseheads has announced it will close indefinitely from the weekend citing “Unsustainable” Covid-19 restrictions.

Popular among locals, uni-students, and the occasional public servant gone wild, Mooseheads has earned a reputation for being one of Canberra's rowdiest night time destinations; an oasis of debauchery in an otherwise clean-cut city.

In a statement shared on Instagram and Facebook Mooseheads management said they hope to reopen as soon as they can.

“It’s with a heavy heart that we will be shutting out doors this weekend due to the current Covid-19 restrictions.

“These restrictions have made trading unsustainable for hospitality venues like ours.”

“our thoughts are with tour seventy plus staff who will receive zero support from the Government”

“We will re-open as soon as we can and will look forward to you, our loyal patrons, coming out for a drink.”

Mooseheads fans on social media expressed their sadness and suggested some cheeky workarounds to Covid-19 restrictions.

“I feel so bad for the staff that sucks,” one person on Facebook said.

“Maybe they should reopen as Hillsong: Moosehesds chapter,” one Facebook commenter said.

“People remember this when we go to the election later this year,” another commenter said.

Under the ACT’s current Covid-19 restrictions, nightclubs can remain open.

However under restrictions patrons can’t exactly let their hair down; dancing is not permitted, indoor density limits of either 25 people per venue or one person per two square meters apply, and patrons must be seated if eating or drinking.

Mooseheads is not the only Covid hospitality casualty this year with much loved Polo Restaurant announcing its permanent closure last week.
