Man to face ACT Supreme Court after pleading guilty to incest, producing child abuse material of daughter

A paedophile has admitted to assaulting his infant daughter and making child exploitation material of her abuse.

The Gungahlin man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to 24 child sexual abuse-related charges.

The charges include seven counts of an act of indecency without consent to a child under ten, four counts incest with a lineal descendant under 10, seven counts of using a child under 12 for the production of child exploitation material and two counts of possessing child exploitation material.

These charges also included maintaining a sexual relationship with a young person, an act of indecency with a young person in the presence of a young person under ten, using a carriage service for child pornography and using a carriage service for child abuse material.

The man appeared at court via telephone from the Alexander Maconochie Centre when he pleaded guilty to the charges.

The bulk of the charges relate to the abuse of his daughter who was aged only one to two years old at the time.

One charge also relates to the man’s son who was three at the time.

Some of the charges relating to possessing child exploitation material date back to 2016.

The man was arrested in 2022 following an investigation by ACT Policing’s Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team, AFP Victim Identification Team and the AFP Digital Forensics Team.

Magistrate Louise Taylor committed the matter to the ACT Supreme Court for sentencing.

He is remanded in custody and will appear for a directions hearing later this month.
