Plans for a second supermarket at the Koko Molongo precinct at Wright in Canberra’s west have been revealed.
The proposed development by PK Nominees in Wright, is expected to cost $3.67 million.
Plans for the single-storey development show the new supermarket would have 1500sq m of floor space and 77 underground parking spaces.
The plans also include a landscaped communal areas for post-shopping relaxation.
The proposal is stage two of a four-stage development for the Koko Molongo precinct.
The first stage of the development, a multistorey mixed-use building with 132 residential units and commercial spaces, is currently under construction.
Stage one will include a 1500sq m Wooloworths Metro supermarket on the ground level.
Plans for the new supermarket show integration between the first two stages of the development with a bridge connecting to the mixed use building.
The supermarket is expected to trade between 7am and 9pm daily.
While the planning documents illustrate manicured communal gardens, a modern facade and a travelator, one mystery remains; the major tenant has not been revealed.
Illustrations provided in the development application read “tenant signage” giving no clues about any potential tenant.
Developer John Krnc said with Woolworths Metro slated for tenancy in the mixed-use building, the second supermarket would be run by “another national operator”.
Mr Krnc said development in the region would benefit the local community.
“The Molonglo Valley currently has a very limited supermarket and retail presence,” he said.
“All the new businesses opening at Koko will bring much needed facilities to the area.”
Mr Krnc said he anticipated the store would open to the public in between September and October 2022.
The development application is open for public comment until December 1.
