A panty-obsessed serial stalker whose perverted actions led to one woman sleeping with a knife under her pillow for protection has learned his fate.
Queanbeyan man Drue Dal Kennedy-Naden, 28, faced court for a slew of charges relating to him terrorising two women.
The statement of agreed facts stated he stole several pairs of underwear from one woman between 8pm on June 24 and 1am on June 25 last year.
Court documents state police found a makeshift shrine in the same unit complex, where a bra and the victim’s underwear was found alongside a bottle of lube and a discarded pair of men’s underwear.
DNA found on the male underwear matched Kennedy-Naden.
On August 9, 2022 Kennedy-Naden stole more items belonging to the same woman, including underwear and a black leather belt, from her residence.
On the night of August 27, 2022 Kennedy Naden broke into the house of a second woman and rummaged through her belongings.
The second victim did not notice anything was stolen in the incident but noticed a large handprint on her mirror.
A few days later, the woman noticed two pairs of female underwear which did not belong to her laid out on her clothes line.
This included a black G-string with a red bow.
At 1.16am on September 29 the woman was alerted by motion sensor lights outside her residence.
She noticed a man, believed to be Kennedy-Naden, outside.
The next day she found a Prouds gift box with two pairs of underwear inside including the same black G-string she saw placed on her clothesline.
DNA from the black G-string matched Kennedy-Naden.
Kennedy-Naden was arrested in November last year, and police found pornographic magazines, a vibrator, condoms, lube, bondage attire, and 27 pairs of women’s underwear in his Nike backpack.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of larceny, two counts of entering enclosed land without a lawful excuse, two counts of stalking, breaking and entering and stealing goods, and having goods suspected of being stolen in personal custody.
The statement of facts also said in 2017 Kennedy-Naden was convicted of breaking and entering to observe a private act for filming a female victim without her knowledge.
He was convicted of stalking in 2018 over an incident where he left an unwrapped condom outside a woman’s house.
Kennedy-Naden’s lawyer told the court his client had been in custody for five months and said his partner gave birth to their second child while he was in custody.
He said his client’s offending stemmed from his drug use and said Kennedy-Naden was genuinely remorseful for his actions
“It’s almost a Jekyll and Hyde experience,” Mr O’Brien remarked.
“After taking drugs (Kennedy-Naden) becomes someone else.”
The lawyer told the court Kennedy-Naden wanted to be a good father to his children.
Concerns were raised by the prosecution that the knicker thief was not engaging in programs designed to curb offending.
Mr O’Brien said Kennedy-Naden was “at a crossroads in his life” and said if he wanted to spend time with his family he “cant afford to not engage”.
“(If he doesn’t change) he is condemning himself to a life locked up,” Mr O’Brien said.
“You’ve spent five months in custody — that’s time you never get back.
“Life is short.”
Mr O’Brien sentenced Kennedy Naden to 18 months imprisonment, backdated to November, with a non-parole period of six months.
Kennedy-Naden will be eligible for parole next month.
