A teenager who allegedly pulled a gun on his neighbour during an altercation will stay behind bars on remand.

Jacob John Arbalis, 19, of Calwell, faced ACT Magistrates court on Wednesday charged with two counts of possessing an offensive weapon with intent, and unauthorised possession of a firearm.

ACT Police will allege Mr Arbalis and a second man brandished a black handgun and a tyre iron during a disagreement with a neighbour about 6.40pm on Tuesday.

Police allege the disagreement occurred outside their houses after the neighbour yelled at Mr Arbalis’s dog.

A police prosecutor told the court the firearm and the alleged co-offender had not yet been located.

Police said in a statement they located Mr Arbalis in Hume after he fled from the scene.

During Mr Arbalis’ bail hearing on Wednesday, a prosecutor told Special Magistrate Margaret Hunter police knew the identity of the co-defendant, but were unable to locate the man.

Mr Arbalis did not enter any pleas, but made an unsuccessful bid for bail.

“I’m not prepared to grant bail unless the firearm is found,” Ms Hunter said.

“That’s the black and white of it.”

“I could say no better” the prosecutor replied.

The magistrate said the neighbour was still in danger and releasing the defendant would be too risky.
