A teenager and two adults have been charged with various offences after a horror crash in Canberra which resulted in the death of a 15-year-old.
Police and emergency services were called to Adelaide Ave, near State Circle in Canberra, in the early hours of April 17 this year, after reports a white Toyota Camry had left the roadway, collided with a concrete barrier, and rolled onto its roof in the middle of the road.
A 15-year-old boy was thrown from the vehicle and transported to hospital, where he died from his injuries.
In July, ACT Police confirmed a stolen black Genesis GV80 SUV was believed to have picked up two people who were in the Camry at the time of the crash, including one person who was the driver.
The stolen Genesis was located partially burnt out in Theodore the same day as the fatal collision.
This week, four search warrants were carried out at various residences in Canberra and following the searches, a boy and two men were arrested in relation to their alleged involvement on the evening of the collision.
A 15-year-old, believed to be the driver of the Camry, has been charged with manslaughter, leaving the scene without rendering assistance, dangerous driving, unlicensed driving, taking a motor vehicle without consent, driving a stolen motor vehicle and exceeding the speed limit.
Meanwhile, a 20-year-old Chisholm man alleged to be a passenger in the Camry at the time of the collision has been charged with being an accessory after the fact, riding in a stolen motor vehicle, driving a stolen motor vehicle, unlicensed driving and exceeding the speed limit.
A second 20-year-old man alleged to be the driver of the Genesis, that picked up the occupants of the Camry, has been issued with a court attendance notice in relation to being an accessory after the fact, arson, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving a stolen motor vehicle and three counts of exceeding the speed limit.
Road and Proactive Policing Superintendent, Brian Diplock, said the charges were a result of a significant investigation by the Major Collision Team.
“I would like to acknowledge the tragic circumstances surrounding this incident, where a 15-year-old boy sadly lost his life,” he said.
“Following a thorough investigation and numerous inquiries, we have been able to bring those involved in this incident before the courts.”
Mr Diplock urged anyone with additional information to come forward to police.
“Every piece of information will assist police as the investigation continues,” he said.
