The ACT has recorded its first road fatality of the year when a cyclist, aged 70, was killed after a collision with a car.

At 9.20pm on Tuesday, police and emergency services received reports of a car colliding with a bicycle near Northbourne Ave.

The cyclist, a 70-year-old man, died at the scene.

ACT Road Policing’s major collision team is investigating the circumstances of the collision.

Across the nation, NSW has already experienced 333 road fatalities in 2025.

Last year in 2024, the ACT recorded 11 road fatalities according to ACT Policing.

Research completed by the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics revealed 1300 people died on Australian roads last year.

According to the National Road Safety Strategy, ACT has had the lowest number of road deaths in the past 12 months, making it one of the safest states in Australia for driving.
