Stephen Allison charged over alleged sexual assault in Snowy Mountains

A man working on the $3.8 billion national renewable energy project in the Snowy Mountains has been temporarily stood down after he was charged with sexual assault.

What happens after a sexual assault?

A 33-year-old Adaminaby man has been charged with sexual assault in the state’s Snowy Mountains earlier this week.

Stephen Allison, 33, was absent for the matter before Queanbeyan Local Court on November 10.

According to court documents, the assault occurred between 9.30pm and 9.40pm on Monday November 8.

On November 9, officers from Monaro Police District began investigating the alleged offence following reports a 28-year-old woman had been sexually assaulted.

Following inquiries, police arrested the 33-year-old man in Adaminaby around 11.45am on Tuesday.

Mr Allison was taken to Cooma police station and charged with aggravated sexual assault and one count of inflicting actual bodily harm on the victim.

According to police facts, Mr Allison has no community ties and was stood down from his employment with LEED Engineering and Construction, where Mr Allison was working on the Snowy 2.0 project.

Police facts state Mr Allison has a limited criminal history within NSW.

The court heard Mr Allison was refused bail due to the seriousness of the alleged crime and the risk he poses to the victim and the community.

The matter was adjourned to November 22.
