A sitting ACT Greens member for the Legislative Assembly has been stood down amid teen sex allegations.

ACT Policing has confirmed an investigation has been opened into allegations involving Member for the Tuggeranong seat of Brindabella Johnathan Davis after he was stood down indefinitely due to allegations of misconduct which emerged on Friday.

The Australian has reported the complaint alleges Mr Davis engaged in relationships with teenage boys.

ACT Greens Leader and Attorney-General Shane Rattenbury said a complaint was brought to his attention at the beginning of the week with another following shortly after.

Mr Davis is yet to comment on the matter. The allegations have not been substantiated. No charges have been laid.

“I immediately asked a member of my senior staff to do an initial review to establish the appropriate next steps, and I have stood Mr Davis down from his MLA duties indefinitely,” Mr Rattenbury said.

“My office has not seen evidence of illegal activity but we are reporting what we know of the complaints to police.”

Chief Minister Andrew Barr and acting Chief Minister Yvette Berry said in a joint statement they were aware of Mr Davis’ “very serious allegations”.

“The Chief’s Minister’s office was made aware earlier this morning that a story would be published today outlining allegations against Green’s MLA Jonathan Davis,” the statement said.

“We understand the matter is being referred to police and expect a full investigation to take place. We have asked the ACT Greens to ensure support is provided to the individuals who have made these matters public.”

The statement continued saying the allegations “do impact his ability to undertake his role”.

“Mr Davis will need to consider his position”.

“The best path would be to accept what we understand to be the position of the ACT Greens party leadership and resign his position in the Assembly,” they said.

An ACT Policing spokesman said they have received a referral in relation to this matter.

“Investigations into this matter are ongoing, and it would be inappropriate to comment further,” the spokesman said.

Mr Davis was elected to the ACT Legislative Assembly in 2020, having been born and raised in Canberra.

According to his ACT Greens profile, Mr Davis has lived in Tuggeranong for more than 16 years where he was schooled.

He worked his first job at the Tuggeranong Hyperdome and bought his first home in the Tuggeranong Town Centre.

“Johnathan has been a progressive voice in Tuggeranong for many years, running as an ACT Greens candidate for Brindabella in both the 2012 and 2016 ACT elections and as the Australian Greens candidate for the seat of Bean at the 2019 federal election,” his profile stated.

“Johnathan is committed to progressive social reform, economic justice that tackles wealth and income inequality and strong environmental action to fight the climate crisis.

“As a crossbench member of the ACT Legislative Assembly, Johnathan seeks to hold the major parties to account and introduce new ideas and fresh perspectives.”

As of Friday morning, Mr Davis’ Instagram, X and Facebook pages have been taken down.

The ACT Greens confirmed Mr Davis would not be making a media statement at this time.
