Just as we prepare for a long shivering winter, Canberra has something for you to look forward to.

Besides wheeling and dealing politicians the nation’s capital is home to Floriade - Australia’s biggest celebration of spring.

After two years of disruption due to the pandemic, Floriade will return to its full glory in Commonwealth Park from September 17 to October 16.

This year’s theme is “the sounds of spring” and the festival will boast over a million blooms across the gardens accompanied by a soundtrack of atmospheric music.

The month-long festival will include a range of events and activities such as markets, food, and performances.

For Canberrans Floriade is so much more than a celebration of spring.

Prior to the pandemic the annual event could attract almost half a million people to the ACT which supported local jobs and was a massive boost to Canberra’s economy.

A statement from Chief Minister Andrew Barr said supporting Canberra’s major events “is a critical part of the ACT Government’s economic recovery plan”.

Under its economic recovery plan the Barr Government aims to “create and protect” 250,000 local jobs by 2025.
