The president of the Canberra chapter of the Satudarah outlaw bikie gang performed a standover job on the victim of a “harrowing” home invasion by walking up to his hospital bed unchallenged and telling him to withdraw his statement to police.

Dean Stephen Reid, 31, a former boxer turned drug addict and bikie, on Friday fronted the ACT Supreme Court with his home invasion co-accused and bikie gang mate David Michael Evans, 33.

Both men have pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery while Reid has also pleaded guilty to attempting to pervert the course of justice and car theft.

The duo, along with robbery ringleader Sharon Ann Stott, 59, Norman Collier, 26, and Joshua Watson, 35, all pleaded guilty on the eve of trial last year.

Crown Prosecutor Keegan Lee said the home invasion involved Reid wounding the victim in the thigh with a knife, then holding the knife to his throat while Evans broke his leg by smashing it with an electric guitar.

In a victim impact statement, the man said: “The first thing that comes to mind is the pain in my leg … I felt the bone breaking through the skin.”

“The next six or eight (blows) I lay on the ground with a very large knife on my throat.”

Justice Chrissa Loukas-Karlsson said the ordeal must have been “harrowing”.

The small Canberra chapter of the Satudarah outlaw bikie gang are mostly behind bars.

Mr Lee said Reid took the man’s car, only to “just walk in” to hospital as the man lay heavily medicated in bed, where Reid and offered to give the car back if he dropped his police statement.

Justice Loukas-Karlsson said: “This sort of offence strikes at the heart of the administration of justice”.

Barrister Jason Moffet, for Evans, said there was no proof his client was a member of the Satudarah at the time of the home invasion, although photos suggest he has been at least an associate of the bikie gang.

Police have previously said Evans was president of the upstart Canberra chapter of the gang.

Stott was last month sentenced to 19 months in jail, suspended after time served, for her leading role in the attack, but remains behind bars on other charges.

The court heard Stott had a history of using violent standover men to do her bidding in Canberra’s underworld, and took the men to the house so she could steal gun parts from the victim.

Reid and Evans will be sentenced in April.
