Police have vowed to bring down “the full brunt of the law” on the “reckless and dangerous” gunman who opened fire during a road rage confrontation at Queanbeyan on Saturday morning.
The shooting, after a “traffic altercation” took place on Molonglo St, leaving the 18-year-old passenger of a Toyota Echo with non-life-threatening injuries to his leg.
The Toyota, peppered with at least three bullet holes, has been seized by police and is being processed by forensic experts.
Investigators from Strike Force Lotterie on Monday said they were looking to speak with a solidly-built caucasian man in his 30s who was driving a silver sedan in the area at the time.
Monaro Police District crime manager, detective Inspector Neil Grey said the shooting posed a serious danger to the public.
“We are looking at an incident that involves the discharge of a firearm in a residential area,” Inspector Grey said.
“There existed a real potential for members of the public to suffer significant harm from this reckless and dangerous act.
“This kind of behaviour won’t be tolerated by police, and anyone who chooses to engage in these reckless acts will face the full brunt of the law.”
