Police found former Canberra bikie boss Peter Zdravkovic half-naked and ‘agitated’ after alleged failed hit

A man has faced court over allegations he took part in a firebombing and attempted hit job on a former Comancheros president.

The first police on the scene of a firebombing and suspected assassination attempt on former Canberra bikie boss Peter Zdravkovic found him half-naked, agitated, and trying to extinguish a petrol-fuelled inferno with his garden hose, a court has heard.

The accused, Axel Sidaros, 25, has pleaded not guilty to Zdravkovic’s attempted murder, arson and aggravated burglary, among other charges.

The prosecution case is that Sidaros was one of four masked intruders who shot up and torched the home of Mr Zdravkovic — a former Comancheros Canberra chapter president — as retaliation for the former chapter president quitting the gang and burning his colours.

Constable Gordon Brown told the ACT Supreme Court on Thursday he rushed to Mr Zdravkovic’s Carter Cres, Calwell, home on the night of June 28 last year.

“He was wearing a pair of shorts and that’s it,” Constable Brown said.

“It was very cold.

“We had a verbal altercation, he was quite upset.”

The tip of Mr Zdravkovic’s index finger was missing and he was bleeding heavily.

“He basically blamed us for the events, (he was) saying we could have prevented it.”

Constable Brown said he found a glass sliding door smashed and the house riddled with shotgun blasts.

“The place was a mess, there was broken glass the sliding door was smashed,” he said.

“He was in a fairly amped up state, walking around barefoot on the broken glass without any shoes.”

“Many many more” police arrived shortly after, and Mr Zdravkovic was taken to hospital.

Constable Brown’s then-partner, former constable Craig Walker, said Mr Zdravkovic “appeared to be putting the fire out with his garden hose”.

The prosecution case is that Mr Zdravkovic was naked when the four men arrived, and returned fire on them.

The intruders fled in a stolen silver four-wheel-drive.

The incident was filmed on Mr Zdravkovic’s home security camera.

Sidaros admits he has links to the Comancheros, but his barrister, Ian McLachlan, said his client denies being one of the masked intruders.

The trial continues.
