The Powerhouse building in Kingsborough Village has been completed and the public are invited to experience this unique development for themselves this Saturday.

A short stroll from the Kingston Foreshore, Kingsborough presents as five completely separate developments with their own designs, facades and colour schemes.

There really isn’t anything else like it in Canberra.

And that is precisely the look developer John Gasson was aiming for when he commissioned five different architectural firms to stamp their own signatures on each of the buildings contained in the Kingston development.

“What I was trying to create is a village with an eclectic design,” Mr Gasson said.

“So rather than a normal apartment project where everything looks like concrete and glass and repeats and repeats with a limited range of product, I deliberately went out and got these five different architectural firms so they could each try something unique so it really stands out.”

The 240-dwelling development will house 500 new residents in a village style setting once the Woolstore — the last building to be completed — is finished early next year.

All demographics are catered for with a plethora of dwellings including warehouses, suave apartments, terrace houses, shophouses with shops underneath and residential above and luxury penthouses.

The Village is about 70 per cent occupied already.

There are one bedroom, east facing apartments starting at $332,000 and four north-facing warehouse style apartments still available in The Powerhouse building.

Like in the Warehouse building, they have been designed so people can do their own internal fit-outs and add rooms as well as their own flair to their homes.

The Warehouse features precast panels with a timber imprint to mirror old-style form work from the 1940s and 1950s.

The two-bedroom penthouse loft in the Warehouse is still available with a price guide of $800,000.

The Daweston building features 38 three bedroom, three bathroom terraces with about 240m2 of living space, which is pretty unheard of in Kingston.

There’s a big focus on sustainability with most of the terraces featuring their own rooftop solar array with many including battery storage solutions.

They’ve all be snapped up.

Mr Gasson, who founded Construction Control in 1988, described Canberra’s housing market as “strong” and “steady”.

“I think for the right product there is still a demand,” Mr Gasson said.

“The market in Canberra for the last 25 years has been strong in my view.”
