A Canberra man charged with a stabbing murder at Charnwood over the weekend fronted court for the first time on Monday after handing himself in to police.
Jayscen Anthony Newby, 26, did not apply for and was formally refused bail during the brief hearing at the ACT Magistrates Court.
His alleged victim, a 27-year-old man, is yet to be formally identified and his identity was suppressed until he is formally identified.
ACT Police over the weekend said they were called to a home on Cartwright St with reports of a “disturbance” in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Officers found the 27-year-old with serious stab wounds.
He died after paramedics rushed him to hospital.
The death prompted a police manhunt through Canberra’s northern suburbs on Saturday, but Newby handed himself in to the city police station around 4.30pm, police said.
Over the weekend, the Silver Gums townhouse complex was taped off as investigators combed the scene.
The police investigation is ongoing.
Newby, who was remanded in custody, will return to court in March.
