A Central Coast man has admitted sexually abusing three children more than two decades ago in a suburb near Canberra.

Patrick Lester Wales, 55, appeared at Queanbeyan Local Court on November 2 following a police investigation into allegations dating back to 2000 that Wales had abused three children in Queanbeyan.

On Tuesday, Wales pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual intercourse with a child under 10 and one count aggravated indecent assault against a person under 16.

The court will consider two further charges of sexual intercourse with a child under 10, and one count of aggravated indecent assault against a person under 16 in forming a sentence for the four main charges.

The court withdrew three additional charges of aggravated indecent assault.

Wales, who now lives in Woy Woy on the NSW Central Coast, will remain on bail and will next appear at Queanbeyan Local Court on December 1.
