Detective Acting Superintendent Matt Reynolds would not be drawn on Monday whether the “altercation” involved a “one-punch” style attack, saying the investigation was in its early stages.

Only two people were involved in the incident, Supt Reynolds said.

Supt Reynolds said police had the details of everyone who was at the pub on the night, where patrons were required to leave their name and phone number under measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Supt Reynolds said investigators were “actively seeking any information from witnesses”.

Investigators on Monday were watching security camera footage from the pub, and are investigating whether there was a previous relationship between the dead man and his assailant.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
