The shocking discovery of a possum hacked to pieces earlier this month has prompted NSW Police to launch an animal cruelty investigation.
In a statement on Monday, Hume District Police said a local council worker came across “several body parts believed to be that of a possum, with a number of stab wounds to the head”.
The discovery, in a part in Albury St, Murrumburrah, halfway between Canberra and Wagga Wagga, was reported to police last week, prompting a public call for information.
Police suspect the possum may have been dismembered in a vile act of animal cruelty.
The council worker also found possum fur on the ground outside the park’s toilet block.
Hume District Police urge anyone with information to come forward to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or to contact Young police station.
