Winter is over. There’s no excuse to be staying inside this weekend.
Here are five events happening in and around Canberra to fill your weekend.
Oktoberfest at Queanbeyan
October means it’s time for Oktoberfest.
The Harmonie German club has been running the Oktoberfest in Canberra for more than 50 years.
This weekend, the Queanbeyan showground will be awash with beer, sausages, traditional dancing and bellringers.
Festivities kick off from 5pm Friday and run until Sunday afternoon.
If you’re planning to drink a stein or five, organisers are running shuttle buses from the city, Woden, Narrabundah and Tuggeranong.
Canberra Nara Candle Festival
Canberra and Nara, Japan, have been sister cities for 26 years.
On Sunday, to celebrate, there will be an evening of Japanese music, food and art set among 3000 candles at the Canberra Nara Peace Park in Lennox Gardens.
The Gundaroo Music Festival
Feel like getting out of the Canberra Bubble for the day? The Gundaroo music festival, half an hour up the road, might be the ticket.
There’ll be plenty of food and wine, as well activities for the kids.
Music kicks off from 10am on Saturday, and the program is headlined by The Black Sorrows.
Entry starts from $20 and the event supports those living with motor neuron disease.
You Are Here
If you’re staying in town this week and feel like seeing something a bit off beat, the You Are Here festival runs all weekend and will showcase the best experimental artists from Canberra and around the country.
