A young man who brought a knife to a bar fight with a group of bikies has admitted to murdering the Comanchero Canberra chapter president.

Who’s who in the bikie underworld?

A man who brought a knife to a bar fight with a group of bikies has admitted to murdering the Canberra chapter president of the Comanchero, Pitasoni Ulavalu.

Frederick Elijah Mercy Tuifua on Friday pleaded guilty to Mr Ulavalu’s stabbing murder, as well as to causing grievous bodily harm to another Comanchero, Zachary Robb.

Tuifua, 26, of Silverwater in western Sydney, has been behind bars on remand since his arrest in August last year.

He had earlier pleaded not guilty, until his barrister, AJ Karim, last week told the ACT Magistrates Court the case would “resolve”.

Tuifua will be sentenced in the Supreme Court.

Security cameras from Kokomo’s nightclub captured the whole attack, from the moment Tuifua’s group showed up to when Mr Ulavalu stumbled onto the footpath and collapsed with blood pouring from his neck.

Five other men in Tuifua’s group have been charged with affray over their lesser roles in the brawl.

Tuifua was on the run for three weeks, amid an elaborate police investigation that ultimately found the murder weapon dumped in a storm drain near Canberra’s notorious Haig Park.

One of the men who has pleaded guilty to affray, Max Budack, has admitted to starting the confrontation with the Comanchero bikies by approaching them just after entering the bar and by shoving one of them in the chest.

The exhaustive police investigation tracked the men’s movements on the night, including catching taxis to Canberra’s southern suburbs and to a hotel near the city.

Police swooped and arrested the men after Budack was shot three times in an apparent reprisal attack, which nobody has been charged over.

Tuifua’s case returns to court at a later date.
