Canberra man arrested over Chinese child sex doll

A Canberra tradie has been charged over an alleged attempt to import a silicone childlike sex doll from China.

The 27-year-old, from Kambah, was arrested at work on Thursday after Australian Border Force officials last month seized a parcel when it arrived in Sydney.

Prosecutors will allege the parcel had arrived from China and was marked as containing a “display shelf”.

It will be alleged that when officers opened the package for inspection, they found a realistic childlike sex doll and children’s clothing.

Border Force investigators from NSW and Canberra raided his house on Thursday, where they seized two electronic devices, which computer specialists will search through in coming days. The man accused of being responsible for trying to import the doll was arrested at work and taken to the city police station.

Investigators also seized the man’s phone, before charging him with breaching the Customs Act by importing the sex doll.

He was granted police bail.

Border Force Superintendent Gary Low said the agency had no tolerance for importing sex dolls, which are classed as child abuse material.

“Our officers are also trained to investigate and prosecute those who seek to import this sickening material, which has no place in our community,” he said.

The 27-year-old will face court in November.

He faces a maximum jail term of 10 years.
